No cleavage, white bread or freedom for Turkey — and eventually for us?

Cleavage in Turkey

Political Islamists are winning in Turkey.  Freedom is losing.

A nation once firmly committed to separation of church and state on Tuesday lifted the ban on public employees wearing the Islamic headscarf while on duty.  Now, females who don’t wear the scarf will inevitably be subjected to even more intimidation.

Earlier this year the government tightened restrictions on alcohol sales and suggested a ban on white bread.  Turkey continues among the world leaders in the prosecution and jailing of journalists.   Yesterday, according to Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal, a television host reportedly was fired after a government official criticized a dress she had worn during a recent game show.  Too much cleavage, perhaps?

These are only the latest signs that Turkey is sliding quickly toward becoming an officially Islamic state that will steadily take freedom away from its citizens.   Many other nations are on the same path.  Will the U.S. be next?
